#NDinNYC: An Irish Christmas Story

Dec 25, 2013, 8:32 PM EDT

The Notre Dame football squad continued their bowl preparation for the New Era Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 24 an 25 in New York City and surrounding areas.

On Christmas Eve, the Irish began the day with breakfast before getting a few hours off prior to getting taped and on the bus to head over to East Rutherford, N.J., to practice at the home of the New York Football Giants.

The trip to the Giants practice facility should have required an hour-long commute, instead with our police escort, it took just under 20 minutes.

Once at the facility, the team went through a variety of stretching and strength activities prior to getting into preparatory sets and working with their position group.

Once the Irish finished practice, loaded up the buses and made it back to midtown Manhattan, they scarfed down dinner and were set for a tour around NYC with a production called “The Ride.”

The Ride wasn’t just a tour around NYC, it was also a comedy show that saw the hosts make “corny” one-liners and other goofy skits with participants.

After arriving back at the hotel after The Ride, the Irish had a great italian dinner before heading to their rooms to get to bed early before Santa brought them gifts.

Christmas day began with a 10 a.m. mass which Father Theising presided over with the entire travel party. Afterward, the entire travel party was treated to a Christmas brunch with ham, turkey, chicken, an omelette station and a plethora of desserts and other side items.

Once the players were done with brunch, they broke into team meetings before getting taped and heading over to the New York Jets facility for their second practice on the east coast.

After practice the Irish bussed back to Manhattan for dinner before heading to the famed Radio City Music Hall for a show.

The Pinstripe Bowl trip for the Irish is just about halfway over and the game is a mere three days away. Tomorrow’s schedule includes trips to the Rockefeller Center, Yankee Stadium and another bowl practice.
